You: The Best Guru EVER
GURU-Thumbnail

A few weeks ago, I was on the porch knocking back a Modelo Especial working and I noticed one of my friends walking up to the front door.

So I eased on down the steps, let him in, and invited him to up to the porch to take in the scenery with me.

He readily agreed so I grabbed us both a couple of Mexico’s finest beers and we took our seats.

But something was wrong. My (normally laid back) buddy was all weirded out.

“Poor bastard’s probably suffering from a beer deficiency”, I thought as I went to grab us a few more.

They didn’t do the trick so I finally asked him what was wrong.

Turned out he’d been disappointed with a recent “Guru” experience.  I’m not talking about spiritual guru stuff here …I mean “get-your-shit-together-in-business” stuff.

That type of Guru.

No, there’s no drama to report …nobody felt ripped off or hosed or anything. It’s just that the relationship didn’t work out as planned and my buddy was bummed.

“I really thought this was the guy who would take me where I want to go”, he said.

And There You Have It …The Root Of The Problem Revealed

See …here’s the deal (and this is what I tried to explain to my friend without sounding all high and mighty):

YOU are the only person who can take you where you want to go. There is no Guru, teacher, mentor, author, speaker, shaman, or whatever who can or will do that for you.

Ever.

Sure, they can show you cool stuff. They can show you what worked for them, they can give you encouragement and motivation …and they can help you keep your head on straight when the going gets weird.

But in the immortal words of Hunter S. Thompson,

“When The Going Gets Weird, The Weird Turn Pro”

And what that means in the context of this little rant is simple:

DON’T FUCK AROUND AND EXPECT SOMEONE ELSE TO SAVE THE DAY.

They won’t. Hell, they can’t! Not even if they want to. Only YOU can.

So whenever you’re considering buying advice, coaching, mentoring, seminar tickets, or whatever – understand this:

They Are All WORTHLESS

…Unless you’re bull-headed enough to immediately put what you learn into action. (And then get right back to work when your first attempts inevitably present some challenges).

And if you’re waiting until you get some big amazing revelation before you actually do something, you’re going to be waiting a long time. There ain’t one.

Well, that’s not entirely true. There is one …but it’s just kind of anti climatic. Here it is:

Some Stuff Works, Some Doesn’t.

And the stuff that’s worked for lots of other people will probably work for you too …if you put in the effort.

See …that’s the key word there.

Effort.

Let’s juice it up and add the word “educated” to it.

Now we have “educated effort”. And that’s a hell of a thing.

See, with “educated effort”, you can do anything you want.

Add in a little “determination” and you’re damn near unstoppable.

Then throw in a little bump of what my teacher Dan Kennedy calls “stick-to-it-iveness” and you WILL get to where you want to go.

Let’s take a look at the last part of that sentence.

YOU. Will. Get. To. Where. YOU. Want. To. Go.

We didn’t say “[INSERT GURU HERE] will get you where you want to go”, did we?

Nope.

YOU.

All a Guru can give you is education.

But the fact remains that’s only 25% of what you need.

You still need throw in 25% effort, 25% determination, and 25% sticktoitiveness.

…And that’s the 75% that YOU and ONLY YOU can provide!

So that’s why

YOU are really the only Guru who can EVER get you to where you want to go!

Hell, how much education do you need, anyway?

Imagine a guy wanting to lose weight (ahem). How many books does he need to buy? For the love of God, it’s easy! Put the fork down and walk around for a few hours a day.

Do that for a month or so and you’ll weigh less. (Duh!)

That’s been the winning formula forever, right?

But There’s A Gazillion Dollar Industry
Delivering “New” Weight Loss Stuff Every Day!

There’s a new diet book every 20 minutes or so it seems.

And the books aren’t the problem. I’m sure they all work if the reader takes the education they just got, adds in a lot of effort, determination, and sticktoitiveness.

But that clearly doesn’t happen. People just keep buying books and gizmos that go unused. Same thing happens in the marketing world. We buy courses and seminars and then jump to the next one …without implementing any of the stuff we just learned.

Why?

Because The Short-Term Pain Of Effort Is Often Perceived
To Be Worse Than The Long-Term Pain Of Failure

There it is. The ugly truth.

It’s hard to get out there …try …work like hell … probably hit a few road blocks …and then keep busting ass until you succeed.

It’s a LOT harder (and less fun) than buying the latest “shiny object” and enjoying that temporary mental “high” that comes from the false sense of productivity you get from making the purchase.

But the fact is, the ONLY way you’ll get anywhere is to realize that YOU ARE THE GURU and that ONLY YOU can make it happen.

So if you keep on buying advice without putting forth determined and consistent effort to implement what you’ve learned, you will NOT succeed.

But if you’re willing to endure the short-term discomfort that stems from stepping outside your comfort zone and actually working like crazy for a while, you’ll get to where you want to go.

All the “Gurus” can do for you is give you the car, so to speak. It’s still up to you to get gas and actually drive it.

My Challenge To You

1. Don’t buy any advice this month. Go back and re-read whatever you’ve bought in the past. It’s still good.

2. Turn off the damn computer and write down all the good stuff you learn. On a legal pad. (OLD SCHOOL!).

3. Review those notes and write down every possible action you could take to start making money immediately. Do whatever actions jump out at you. Don’t over think this. Just do it. Life is short.

4. Write a new offer for your products. You’ve probably bought a ton of stuff on writing offers and copy …so dig it out of the closet and put it to use. Nothing happens until something gets sold. So start selling (and quit buying).

5. Take the money you would have spent on whatever new marketing product you were thinking about buying this month (but didn’t) and use that money to drive traffic to your offer.

That’s right! Invest in business instead of buying more stuff about business. Revolutionary concept!

6. Measure the results of your activity (note the word ACTIVITY!) and tweak accordingly.

7. Repeat 1-6.

Oh – and if you’ve ever looked for a magic formula, that’s pretty much it.

I know because I’ve been at this now for 11 years and I’ve tried everything.

It’s simple:

1. See what worked for other people.

2. Try it for yourself.

3. Adjust according to results.

4. Repeat.

Now Let’s Kick Some Ass

We’re heading into the 4th quarter and ’tis the season to SELL THE HELL OUT OF YOUR STUFF.

This is the time of year when people love to buy things more than ever …and that means your odds of success are even greater!

So get to work and let me know how you’re doing with my challenge. Leave me updates in the comments below.

    Hello Frank!

I run a little web design training company here in Dominican Republic (in the caribbean).

Today i found $784 in my Paypal account from the “Four Day Cash Machine” I launched to my list in iContact over the weekend (just wrote the four messages and pre-programed the sending sequence).

That was totally unexpected since these are slow days around here.

I got it from your giveaway in the List Control Launch.

Finally, im heading to deep in the local marketing “wave”, currently i have an international local client: an english training company in Spain and from here I deliver clients to them from their own “backyard”.

Thanks Frank for all the inspiration and education, my life is better because of your work.

Great advice Frank! I’ve found that the more proactive I am, the faster I implement something (best case: IMMEDIATELY) after learning it,the more profitable I am. Otherwise I wind up forgetting and then doing jack-all with it.

One thing that I’m working on is building immediate action into a habit, cause I can get lazy if I don’t have a pre-established routine.

Here’s the dummy proof system that I use and that almost forces me to take action on things right after i hear/learn/discover them. I made a little video showing how to do it on my blog at yoursuccess.ca:
    http://yoursuccess.ca/348/getting-things-done-implementing-ideas-fast/

Thanks for the great post Frank. Challenge Accepted!! I believe as you that most of us have the knowledge to kill it online, most just don’t do anything. They are looking for the perfect system or method. Most are ideal but they don’t realize that they are the key ingredient.

Thanks for the ingredients for the master recipe. Now it’s time for the cook to get to work.

  6. Herbert says:

Haha…I was on the porch knocking back a Modelo Especial…nice..

Thanks for the kick in the butt…always comes in handy…I actually unsubscribed from all the “gurus” lists and only frequent their blogs in my own time…better than being distracted from launch emails…AND settled on a niche and strategy/ies to execute…it’s very true that one single $27 ebook can have 5 strategies that can make a difference in your business…depending on who wrote it…I have been in this long enough to know whom to trust…and found the book for that…at $50, though…

Frank, the main thoughts that stood out to me here include…motivation and end-goal…it takes determination to run PPC ads, Build links, optimize websites long enough to start reaping the benefits..and KEEPING motivated is what let’s me an plenty others down…giving a meaning to what we do is the key and also getting a partner to push us is paramount to finally doing it…am sure you and Trey pushed each other when you were starting out…

Thanks for the lesson…Blog a little more, though…good stuff and a change from the IM stuff…MINDSET is NUMERO UNO in IM…

Great reminder. No matter where you are, you are the only one who can take it to the next level. I joined a fairly pricey forum this week with the aim of learning a particular skill that will prove useful to me at this point in my marketing.

Browsing around the forum I quickly noticed many, many posts from a resident “expert.” This person had advice for everyone about everything – in great detail. He had been a member of the forum for 6 months or so. Finally, I ran across the ultimate post from this wannabe.

Someone asked how his XYZ style site was doing. His response was the classic I have seen on every other forum – “I have not actually launched my site yet – I am waiting until it is perfect. If the rest of you want to launch imperfect sites, so be it, but MINE will be perfect first.” I’ll bet you a guarter that in 6 more months he will have several hundred more forum posts – and still no site. Meanwhile, a few hundred other people will be making money off of their imperfect, not completely finished, something might still be wrong with them, sites.

    Action works.

Frank, I gotcha. BUT the education part is the one that bugs me the most. I have been trying to find out for three weeks about squeeze pages and download pages and opt in pages. Now this might sound really stupid question but where does it go??? I upload it to page 2 and 3 of my main domain or i have to get a new domain for each or what?? And you know what…..I can find the exact same question on a couple of newbie sites.
I wrote to one of my favorite gurus and he wrote back that i confused him but he would be coming out with a new video series that would answer that very question real soon and I should check back….
So a lot of us get stuck on stupid stuff that we just can’t do. and many of the video series dont address everything.

But I do think you are right and have tweeted your message. Many people quit way too quick. And many buy just one domain and market just one product and after four months they are cmplaining cause they only have a few subscribers or not much money. I think when one thing doesn’t work for you.

I personally have to use a review site and then link directly to the sales pages and just do affiliate marketing cause i could not , so far, get my products for sale. But I just kept going and found something I DID know how to do.

Heck Frank, are you sure you have the proportions right? I surely was of the opinion that those GURU fellas were worth more than a simple 25%. There again, maybe I have been assigning too much value to them, maybe you are as well.

25% effort, 25% determination, and 25% sticktoitiveness and then that 25% GURU, seems like I am missing something in that equation.
Somewhere courage or sheer guts is missing. Everything you are describing to me seems correct, but somehow it takes guts to prove yourself wrong and all those purchased products a little bit blameless.

All you are saying happens after you start, most people never start to prove the theories of the products right or wrong. They simply are too scared or too timid to get into the face of the masses.

If that has the same type of weighting as the rest, I believe that the GURU is only worth 20%, maybe less if someone else believes that their specific problem needs to be added as well.

Great post Frank, something finally gets me thinking again! NO, I am not disagreeing with you at all, just saying that it is time I got off my butt and actually start doing something, put what is between my ears finally to work

I’m no guru, but I’ve made enough mistakes to know part of the way there.

The main thing is to find what works for you – in your area of strength someone once said – something you can handle doing and even like the area its in. Verify the method works – is working for real for others and still is.
Then dig in – focus solely on it -and don’t -I repeat DO NOT – get sidetracked by other methods, products, bright shiny objects to buy – the downfall of most marketer wanna-be’s – stay focused, one step in front of another, keep to YOUR project you set out to do. And as Frank says -work hard and keep at it – and keep at it some more through the set backs, until you succeed.

Once you succeed, test it and try one slight new change at a time – only one at a time per test – and you will find little things that will make it pay you more – and more – find what’s working and what can be improved to work/pay better. And it will pay out and your hard work and perseverance will pay off.

Then do it again – and once again – and then you’ll start building that good income back again.
That’s the Internet Marketer’s advice I would give you. Hope it helps and you get back to where you want to be again. Do it – and I’m sure you will.

    • Nancy,… Like Frank, and all the others here. You are all Rock Stars… Very cool, obviously in it to win it.. This blog is not about me – AT ALL, and I get that. Yet, ..I had the gall (new word for me) to make it about me without being aware of it (until I came back to read again)..

      it gets better…

      – Everyone here is successful. No one judged, and ‘most’ left the comment alone and kept things on topic and positive. As it should be.. (talking about my veer)

      Nancy!

      - Thanks for taking the time to reply. – Its funny how things ‘changed’ (something we all know is the only thing we can count on). For years I was on top, everyone asked for my advice. I actually could just sling it out there on key, make sense, and help them leave them laughing and on a high note … Now I’m asking questions I used to answer!

where did I go? ( anyone, anyone …Beuhler….. Beuhler?)

      - I never actually stopped learning. But I think I stopped listening to what I was trying to learn from people places books experiences and things. Perhaps I thought I was still grateful but I think maybe that I stopped being grateful. Let things slip.. I also thought that Id already been through years of the tough shoit…(complacency) I gave time, money, and paid value by listening to others who needed help.. So perhaps I stopped listening too.

Dunno.. but – I’m listening right now. – Because you listened Nancy N..

      THANKS to all the FRANKS

& a Special thanks to you “Nancy N” – your time is very valuable. – Thanks for the loan. I owe you.

Yes Frank, it’s the honest way of things. You can always learn from others, mentors and Guru’s are great.
Then we all do have to go out use what we know and find our own path. Unless I can win the lottery and then just forget all this and hang at the best surf spot and spend my time saving the world.

ACTION is most peoples issue! if you want to learn the basics of Internet Marketing, it’s out there…but we like to read, re read, re subscribe, read pdfs, etc… when we KNOW WHAT TO DO.

Action is most of what matters…

Like I said at our recent food festival…

Lookers go home hungry, buyers get full. Step right up! (sold 55 lbs of scallops in a few hours)…madness.

    keep rockin!

  87. Frank, it’s funny that you wrote this. I just took my box of Mass Control gear out of the closet tonight. After putting it away about a year ago. See when I bought Mass Control and followed the instructions; I popped in “Core Influence” first and realized that I had a lot of work to do personally on my core. I was focused on the wrong things; I was focused on my surface core. I’ve been really focused on developing myself reading Earl Nightingale’s “Lead The Field,” Napoleon Hill’s “Law of Success” and listening to Tony Robbins. Tonight I popped in CORE INFLUENCE again and I can proudly say that I’ve made tremendous progress! I’m looking forward to building my life of FREEDOM! Thank you for being Jenius dude and keep your eyes on me. Something great is brewing; I can feel it! http://www.projectpurplecow.com

    Hi Frank,

Thank you for this post. It sounds, like everything you write, very good and very true and very smart and very (continue as you want).
My problem with your post is only that it covers a tiny part of the truth. The knowledge base, especially in internet marketing, changes every day, and it would be worth diamonds and gold having real teachers helping us to pick what actually works.
I agree that everybody is responsible for his or her life. However, everybody selling information and knowledge is much more responsible for the curriculum, the content. This applies also for big gurus selling their newest program for $1997 or more.

  91. Crap! You mean I actually have to do something? I thought all that money I spent would do it for me “automatically”.

Why does it seem strange that after all the BS promises, I have to take action and put the information to work.

I could spend the next 6 months implementing and work for three years without buying another product. Please repost this weekly to remind me.

    Thanks Frank!

You have spelled it out totally, in the sense that a hungry person who wants to get out there and do the Internet marketing business [sell / promote their product], has to take action for themselves, as no one else can do it for them. The computer is a tool at our fingertips, and ain’t gonna do the work, without human input. I’m a late bloomer in the use of technology. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it !’

Now my question is this. What if a compulsive shopper suddenly realizes the power of the Internet and finds all these wonderful products, gurus of the body / soul / mind, and told that it takes no technology know how, on setting them up and running the program – is that fair trade and being honest and upfront with the consumer ? My opinion, that’s being shafted, and there have been many a day where I questioned if it was worth my time, and tempted to walk away.

Meanwhile, majority of the consumers of home computers came about in the later /80′s, in my neck of the woods. I took courses in college, but many had not / haven’t been trained to use computers, and many are doing fine using it other then marketing. It wasn’t until the factory / major services shut down, that many were forced to take up computer studies.

‘NOT TAKING ACTION’ … THEN WHO THE HELL DO I EXPECT TO DO IT FOR ME?’

‘Somebody I can pay for their service, in helping me launch my Enterprise, for starters.’

‘No man / woman is a rock / island unto themselves’

That is pressure, not me following my passion and working at my speed rather then I break under the stress / on over load burnt out. Besides, who at the end of the day is going to buy our product ? if we continue to pay out and not ‘Get Paid For Who We Are.’

Your test drive with the SEO [Still havene't a clue how i works] that became a gift for forwarding your email [ some contacts are being flooded, and asked I take them off my list, thanks dude - I blame you for that !!!! (*-*)] in appreciation of your kind gift. I kept searching for that magic key that would open the vault door and have things flowing my way – just like it was said to happen.

Thanks Frank, for handing it to me and others early birds.

  121. first off i think your hair looks cool and i’m a chick so that counts
    anyway SO TRUE… just do
This weekend i was canoeing down the Myakka river with the occasional alligator and water moccasin, the spanish moss dripping off the cyprus trees on a stellar day…
Now i am so sunburnt my eyes are swollen shut and no amount of aloe vera is working
My point is…I packed sunscreen and just like all the “personal development programs”
NO ONE was going to put the damn sunscreen on me except ME and it was right at my fingertips
there it was…right in my backpack, but did i put it on NO and now i pay the price
Why oh why didn’t i, therein the question everybody out there with a shred of intelligence KNOWS pretty much what they need to DO and yet they don’t…
maybe people need shock therapy to change their habits
all i know is i’m not setting a toenail out the door without sunscreen, guess i should apply the same tenancity for my work(artist)…thanks for all your great insights

Frank, You’re stuff is always great but this post breaks it down even further to the front line basics which are always the real brick and mortar holding any business together. More importantly the fact that it’s yourself who must lay those bricks and build a foundation. No one else is going to do it for you, even when you hire out the work, you still have to command the operation.

Only action equals result. You understand this implicitly. This post was surprising in just it’s pure honesty and I think that’s the real thing buyers are always looking for in these marketing products which they buy all over the net. But it’s the sizzle that’s always being sold, not just in making the money but in how it’s done.

This was just the best thing to read tonight. Very Inspirational…. I’ve recently come into the last stretch of having all my ducks in a row to do a full launch of my site, http://learntowintrading.com

I can only hope I reach your level of success.

Frank, Brilliant Advice! We live in a micro-wave world. We want instant success and we want it served up within 10 days or our money back. After all we paid and they said it worked. Very few people are actually willing to pay the price of the work involved and so cause and effect demands only a few people are actually getting the results!

    Hey Frank,

spot on, unfortunately, you’re missing one crucial step when you say:

“Because The Short-Term Pain Of Effort Is Often Perceived
To Be Worse Than The Long-Term Pain Of Failure”

you are correct, the short-term pain of effort is perceived to be worse than the long-term consequences.

Unfortunately, these two sorts of pain are processed in different parts of the brain, and when it comes go making a decision about avoiding short term pain or suffering long-term consequences, it’s like asking Arnold Schwarzenegger and Homer Simpson to arm-wrestle … Arnie wins every time (and you buy another course…)

I’ve done a quick video (easier to explain with visuals) here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3EIA9DOdVs

it explains why it’s near impossible to just “take action” when the Internet Marketing trolls have already pulled you under the bridge and you’ve been stuck in the “hey, let me just buy some more advice” cycle from hell for more than 1 or 2 iterations.

    have fun

  151. You Know Frank I was just thinking on the same lines today myself (Great Minds Think A like) Not that there is anything great about kicking one’s own ass to get the job done.

I have found that very few people actually have the balls to do just that … In fact I know of some woman with bigger ones (and I’m not talking about ladies who swing the other way) Maybe I am being a bit too graphic here.

I’ll tone it down a bit … Let’s look at Integrity can someone be 99% integral ..? When someone gives their word and breaks it for no real concrete reason i.e. Just because they Feel low, fed up, disappointed or the many other crazy excuses for not being true to their word, either to themselves and others.

If we lack the resolve to keep our promises and BE INTEGRAL weather it is to ourselves or others we need to adjust how we think on a fundamental level, because if we do not, then we will fail every time even if we seem to be gaining some level of success … Success can be a little bit like water if your container has whole in it you will lose it all .. Yes you can scoop it up with your hands to drink but how much of it can you carry with you like that.?

We are that container and little things like not having integrity and not honouring ones word are big wholes in our container if we don’t deal with them, we will just continue to take ten steps forward and twelve steps back, even a little drip will drain your harvest of success in season and especially out of the season of plenty.

So kick your own BUTT to be all You can be and fix all that needs to be fixed in the container of YOUR life and I guarantee, You will not be able to stop the flood and rainy season of wealth that will flood Your life.

Here’s my take on this Frank, you’ve helped me and my business A LOT, and without having met you, I consider you a friend. I’m the guy that runs the tinnitus website…we talked on a couple of your group calls and I will never forget how well you listened. You let people speak their minds and people got the help they needed. It helped.

Here’s the thang on the gurus.

As much as I agree with you, I have A LOT of businesses and business ideas. I recently took on a coach, and well…I’m basically getting training on my “pitches,” on how to present information to people so that buying from me is the next logical step. What I used to do is just pitch my ideas. A lot of times people would take my ideas and go: thanks dude, see you later.

My challenge was to actually involve MYSELF in the sales process. It sounds goofy, but it’s true.

So, as I listen to my coach rephrase my offers, I’m like “that’s what’s been missing.” The offers are working better…it’s just a bit of a tweak, and I’m not even sure what exactly is being tweaked…but it’s being tweaked.

I’m landing more clients, helping more people, providing better service, and well…starting to build real brands for people.

It took a coach to help me with the leap. It really, truly, and honestly did.

Interestingly, I wrote an eBook about songwriting in which people discover themselves as their own best teacher…and as true as it is…sometimes…there’s just a missing piece of the puzzle…some thing you just aren’t getting…and just going it alone is like banging your head against the wall…and that’s where the “right” guru steps in and helps.

So, for folks who are going to do Frank’s steps, if it’s right for you, go for it…if there’s a real issue though, with your sales, or your presentations, or your focus, or your market selection…or if you’re to the point where you are failing in a specific, patterned way…well…I certainly recommend getting the help of an expert.

Also, it’s just WEIRD which kind of help actually helps. That’s for another time though, cuz sometimes, the “blockage” isn’t obviously related to your business…

    Best,
    Dainis

Easier said than done, but solid advice. My mind has been screwed by all the gurus speaking crudola to me for several years, where it comes down to the point of thinking that there is no money to be made online!! I realise thats not true, but because I havent had success, then its like that old saying if a tree falls in the forrest and no one hears it or sees it did it fall? Hard work is difficult to maintain for medium to long term without tasty sales and results. You guys and the top 30 or so gurus, you guys got in early and got the massive 100, 200, 500k lists so selling shit to your list is a matter of clicking some buttons. The new folks though, have to compete from scratch with a zillion other marketers all selling the magic bullet solution to make money.
And can someone please tell me how to recognise if a product is good advice or if it is crap? Thats key, how to know what to follow and read.

I’m so pleased that someone has finally said this. I pretty much came to this same conclusion today. I’ve spent a year not making any money and jumping form one product to the next. If someone had told me from the start that I could success but it wouldn’t be quick and you had to put the work in I probably would have stuck with the first product I bought. However they don’t tell you that when you’re buying it. I got told I could make 30 000 dollars in three months, then I found out from the leader of this course today that actually it can take up to a year to even get any kind of a following! Thanks for telling it like it is, I needed to hear this. Perhaps I’ll stick at it this time!

I dint wanted to comment on this blog but i have to. I’m usually not a person of forums, blog comment and shit but i will give you a few tips here.

First of all i have to congratulate frank on coming clean on removing the curtain on most
people buying how to courses etc that blinds them to spend more and keep spending.

Secondly i have to say frank has more cash in his bank to start saying shit like as this is
telling people the truth and think twice when buying how to programs.

Third This goes to everyone who’s skull is too thick to shit himself and blame others for
hes actions i mean most of you guys.

Let me ask you this, every product in the internet marketing or how to make make money
they always refer or blame (in their sales letters, emails etc the gurus for misleading people and not giving them real information to make money online….

    BUT…

Do they mention any particular GURU who is misleading everyone?

Answer is no! these are the same people who tells you buy from me and i will show you how to make a gazillion over night as long as you buy from me not from the guru. But which guru
what the fuck i you talking about?

The people who sell products online claiming to solve your problem are the same people who are screwing you deep into your problems to make them big so you can slave to them.

That’s why they do launch after launch to confuse you and screw you up, an fools keep on buying their shits after shits hopping to solve their problems.

Lastly let me say this few so called gurus have a secret called confusion and information overload
and it was designed that way to give them money from the same people every year and that you and me.

My advise that DON’T buy for the sake of hoping some one will take you where you want or give you a magic course and wake up a millionaire. Buy for the sake of educating yourself with a purpose and implement what you learn otherwise DON’T.

    Sell instead of buying.

That’s exactly what i did and earn more than most guys in IM even the so called GURUs who survive from launch after launch and i don’t even attend any seminars, forums JVs or shit like that.

SO GUYS TAKE CHARGE AND LIKE THE SPINNING WHEEL OF CHASING YOUR OWN TALE AND BLAMING GURUS.

    Hi Frank,

I don’t know how or why, but super successful people like you can explain really complex things in simple terms that everyone can understand. I mean why should a new expensive diet book work better than your “eat less & walk more” approach?

The reason is the magic bullet syndrome, and it’s probably caused by too many adverts everywhere telling us we can get anything we want with no effort.

Anyway I need to go and do some work on my business now as if I don’t do it then I can’t blame anyone else.

Frank’s way to success is not the whole story. First, you need some skill that people are willing to pay for, preferably something unique. Then you can transfer that skill into a product, but without a professional production and marketing you’ll never get rich. With so many professionals out of work, there should be huge opportunity out there, especially as to collaborative networks.

Not, “Go buy Kajabi and sit on your ass and stare at it.”

Furthermore, Kajabi is a tool. Not advice.

Hope the money makes you feel good about yourself. You just fell to the bottom of the heap in the trust worthy category. But, who gives a crap…. obviously you don’t.

Dude – a new product is ALWAYS coming. And I use Kajabi, which is NOT a “how-to” course …it’s a tool …like Dreamweaver, Vimeo and WordPress all rolled up into one. Furthermore – and I’m not even sure I’m supposed to be telling this yet – It comes with a FREE TRIAL. Therefore, it’s technically impossible to buy it before the month is out.

Also, the damn thing is a tool …it builds web pages and so forth. it doesn’t even apply to (or appeal to) the person who isn’t doing anything because the only reason anyone would buy it is to actually DO something with it.

Otherwise it would be like buying film when you don’t have a camera.

And I think it’s pretty clear that my post is about buying ADVICE …not actual tools that nobody in their right mind would buy unless they were actually going to use them.

Thank you for the straight forward, people caring, from the heart after a joint and a few beers speech.

Ok I agree we do have to put in the effort. I disagree that getting someone else; a GURU to give ideas and give easier ways to get things done is not helpful, useful, worth the money. I am talking about more than accountability and cajoling here. There is something to be said for the voice of experience to give us a better way to get our business “done” . So maybe no more products, but I do recommend getting advice from those you trust.

Excellent post! This reminds me of an old Cheech & Chong bit that went something like this:

Cheech: Why do cowboys out on the range always have cow shit in their mustaches?
    Chong: I dunno.
Cheech: Looking for love in all the wrong places!

Far too many people look outside of themselves for the keys to success which reside within them. This condition is much like a self induced trance where you can’t find your keys that are sitting out in the open on the table right in front of you. We have all experienced this phenomenon at some point in our lives. Of course the reality is that we experience this all of the time.

We are all master hypnotists who are constantly inducing various trance states with our own self-talk. Unfortunately at a very early age we get conditioned to look to others for solutions to the ills in our life, which gets perpetuated by the mass media once we are old enough to provide for ourselves. This is driven further into our psyche by those government indoctrination centers that we call schools, which are geared to prepare us for enslavement as corporate drones or through working for others instead of teaching us how to be true to our hearts and generate an income doing what we love.

We need people who aren’t seeking to be a guru and are willing to help deprogeam others and teach them how to undo the trances they’ve created so that they can awaken the creative giant and tap into the unlimited power within. People will then be able to assume full responsibility and take back their lives.

Frank, I think that this was the answer that you were looking for when you portrayed the little drama with John Reese where you were seeking a way to get people to take action when they buy your shit for the promotion of Tony Robbins New Money Masters series, which did not create more action takers. Even though the series presents sound information as does your products, due to the trance state that most have created within themselves they just possess more knowledge, but little or nothing changes in their lives. They are no different than the individual who can’t move because of an on-stage hypnotic induction that created the subconscious belief that their feet were stuck to the stage floor.

Like you I have been looking at this phenomenon for some time now and think that I have a solution. Now I need to do some testing to determine the effectiveness and tweak everything. Then I shall make this available to everyone for little cost. Just imagine what this world would be like as the masses start awakening to their potential and a creativity that exceeds that of Leonardo DaVinci arises within each.

Frank, There are a lot of naysayers and confused folks out there that want to blame there lack of taking action on others (in this case you.) I like what your doing. You can only educate and urge action but people actually need to shift from learn mode to DO mode and only they can take that step. I think this post is great and strikes a chord with many.

It seemed like you took off the offer to receive all your products to the best action taker. Is this still running? And if so, is their a deadline, like a month or something? Either way I hope you follow your new post as I will update my results of doing rather than learning in a few weeks.

Best to you and hope all is well in your world,

Frank – I love your stuff, and agree totally with your sentiments.

But can I also say something that many in the industry also say … “Give a lot of value.” Okay, you’ve said it, too. So many times I hear – this is how to market, this is how to drive traffic, this is how to design offers – then ‘give a lot of value’ – then sell to them more and again. Can I rant about that???? I’m a learning expert, and I can’t tell you how unbelievably naive and unhelpful this statement is! Just putting “information” out there, without considering better ways for clients to effectively learn, apply, and change their behavior – sure, it’s a shortfall of the client who doesn’t ‘just do it’, but it also indicates a lazy coach or teacher, who doesn’t consider how their target market can most effectively learn.

  499. Lisa says:

AWESOME! I needed this right now.

As I am drinking my “Natural Light” – cheapest beer you can buy – Because I spend most of my extra money on IM products!!!

I get in phases of this “great” attitude where I am the only one in control of my future and this is all up to me. My success or failure depends upon the action I take.———-

Then I get “shiny thing” syndrome and think this product will be “the ONE” or this product will finally fill in the missing gap that I don’t seem to understand about IM.

I currently make $200 to $300 per month in IM business.

How hard can it really be to rinse and repeat???????? I ask myself on a daily basis—

If I can make $300 -then I can make $3,000 and so on and so on ……. Well, back to work

I WILL KEEP PUSHING FORWARD TO MY SUCCESS, EVEN IF I TAKE A FEW STEPS BACK NOW AND AGAIN – I WILL REACH MY GOALS

But the fact is that you just have to go out there DO IT, screw up, and get up and learn from your mistakes and keep moving. Reading and listening to Audios is good before you go to bed but everyone needs to understand that they can’t live anyone else life but their own.

    Thanks for this helpful post.

Yea Same Shit Different Day, It Is up to all of us to make a conscious decision to change our lives for the better. No Action is not an option I allow myself to take. I would rather make a decision and Fail and learn from my failure, than to take no Action and Fail completely. At least by taking Action, I allow myself the opportunity to Grow, and if you Fail for long enough, you will in fact Succeed In The End. Life is never a straight road, we must learn to navigate the Twists & Turns…… So Thanks Kern…..to be contin

YOU ARE THE GURU and ONLY YOU can make it happen .. That is now my screen saver!!

I’ve been bashing around the web and net for yonks and you’re absolutely right – we overcomplicate things and expect others to make our success happen when we fork out cash for tips, lessons and guidance. At the end of the day, we need to take personal responsibility for our own progress. Hard truth that hurts (just like putting the fork down and hitting the pavement!!).

It would be real nice though if the experts we pay money to would also take some responsibility for giving feedback and direct assistance to get us over the learning hums.

You should never underestimate the power of being totally cool to people and doing good things for others.

Another author that keep on delivering the most inspiring words is Stephen Covey.
But my top favourite method to make lots of cold hard cash fast is:

This method is so good that it will never go out of date or out of fashion.

And almost nobody knows about this either, so when you actually do it,

    This made me chuckle.

I am going to hold my hands up and admit I AM one of those people who has spent ££££ $$$$ buying stuff, if fact I bought your Mass Control 2.0 and started with all good intentions – but 1 week in I got distracted by the lure of another shiny thing. And up it went on the shelf.

However you will be glad to know that after nearly 2 years I finally got it off the shelf and have started to have play!.

And I have no doubt that sitting here in my home office there is a scrap of paper with a million dollar idea – its just case of pinpointing and sticking to it to make it work!

    Knowledge in nothing unless implemented

Frank, I just watched the DVD you made with Tony Robbins. Amazing! I’m dying to jump in and create and start selling a new info ebook in a way like you’ve done with the pet training products etc. that you described. I’m 38, two kids, work extremely hard and ready to do whatever it takes to start making it happen this week. I got the part w/ guru.com and freeteleconference but not sure how / what platform to use to put it all together into an automated business thats really making money. Thank you so much for helping change so many peoples lives! Jeff

I’ve never been to your site Frank, partially because I thought it must be rated ‘R’
for ‘Really? Where does that potty mouth come from?!” and the other part is I was busy
listening to so many other gurus you have personally taught. Thank you for sharing
your go-giver spirit and wisdom in business so I could learn from them.

Thanks also for the very honest post. Truly it’s amazing to see how much we can
accomplish when we stop blaming and start being responsible for our own lack of
action. It’s about maturity and seeing our own blind spots. I appreciate your being
gentle and loving in this post – Oh Wait…that was Eban’s post.

I will use your cuss-free quotes in my own site today, and I sincerely thank you for
touting the message of continuing to do good in the world. That is all I knew of, and
know of, and hope to continue to hear from you – over and above all else.

  558. Frank – I watched two of your videos this week.  Thought I would come to your site tonight to see what other wisdom you had in store.  Man!  You kicked me right square in the ass!!! Right where I needed it!!!  While I can honestly say I have never bashed anyone’s product publicly, I have in my own mind.  You made me realize how self-defeating that is! Thanks dude!  You rock!

I just finished reading a sales letter on affiliate marketing stuff, which I actually intended to buy. But before doing so, I had to go to the locus where I read this Guru-article, which made me think and – thanks to Frank- finally I decided not to buy this shiny stuff!

  567. Great article. I have been thinking of what I want to take for my next action and you answered it. Go back and actually do the last set of instructions you were given, good stuff, and I like the old school pen and paper concept.

    Thanks
